TbT 30 Hour Famine 2002 Purpose |
||||
The purpose behind the TbT 30 Hour Famine is simple. We desire to raise as much money as possible for World Vision. "World Vision is a non-profit Christian relief and development organization committed to assisting the poor. World Vision is working in over 3,200 active projects in almost 100 countries (including the U.S.A.) at the community level to educate, and encourage people toward a better future." We here at the TbT Spark believe in the work that this organization is doing. World Vision is committed to spreading the Gospel of Christ and has been doing this for over 50 years. World Vision facilitates this through providing for their physical needs, (how will they ever accept the Gospel of Christ if we do not practice it) and also presenting the hope that is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The 30 Hour Famine is much more than a 30 hour event. January 2002 through Famine time, (March 15th & 16th, 2002) we hold many fundraising events and are consistently seeking opportunities to raise money. The purpose behind the fasting is as follows: Fasting is a spiritual discipline found through out the Bible. We spend some of this time of fasting in prayer and studying God's Word in developing this as a spiritual discipline. Fasting also gives us a chance to glimpse the everyday life of people who are hungry in the only way we can, to experience it. Fasting is not required to reach our goal of raising money but, it gives the participants an opportunity to truly relate to God's people who are starving. Many people around the world have completed the 30 Hour Famine with no problems. This is our fourth year! "Fasting is a physical benefit for most people. Exceptions are children under 12 years of age, the elderly, diabetics, those pregnant or nursing, and others who have had recent surgeries or have specific medical problems. Most youth have no problem completing the 30 Hour Famine; however, modifications can be made as necessary. If you have any health related questions about your or your child's participation in the Famine, please consult your doctor. Additional information from the 30 Hour Famine Medical Advisory Board regarding fasting may be obtained by calling 1-800-7-FAMINE. For more information on fasting, you can request a facts on Fasting sheet from your Famine Group leader. You can also obtain this sheet by calling 1-800-7-FAMINE. or find it at www.30hourfamine.org." We at the TbT Spark want to encourage you to participate in this years 30 Hour Famine. God will reward you and you will come away from an experience you will never forget.
