This year will be my fourth year doing the 30 Hour Famine. Every year I just get more and more excited about it! God has done amazing things in my life through the Famine. I was definitely enthusiastic when World Vision asked me to talk to other students about it. I have to admit that to me, poverty used to be something that existed but didn't involve me. The sad-looking faces were too far away for me to do anything about and in countries with names I couldn't pronounce. But when I did the Famine, I was shocked to find out what poverty really is. It's teenagers who don't get to hang out with their friends because they have to work all day to survive. It's someone's little brother or sister who didn't get to eat today because there was no food for them. It's a woman who watches her dying husband fade away because she can't afford medicine. Poverty is real. And they can't do anything about it. I had the incredible opportunity to go to Peru on the Famine Study Tour. I met poor children, and I saw poverty. But I also saw how the 30 Hour Famine was changing the lives of people who have nothing. The money we raise is bringing them hope and it really is saving lives! I saw, in person, that you and I can make a BIG difference through the Famine. That's why it's so great that you're doing the Famine! It's fun and you'll have an awesome time with your friends. But you might be surprised...the Famine might actually change YOU more than anyone else. You'll never look at poverty the same way again. Changing lives is something that you'll remember forever. This year will be my fourth year doing the 30 Hour Famine. Every year I just get more and more excited about it! God has done amazing things in my life through the Famine. I was definitely enthusiastic when World Vision asked me to talk to other students about it. I have to admit that to me, poverty used to be something that existed but didn't involve me. The sad-looking faces were too far away for me to do anything about and in countries with names I couldn't pronounce. But when I did the Famine, I was shocked to find out what poverty really is. It's teenagers who don't get to hang out with their friends because they have to work all day to survive. It's someone's little brother or sister who didn't get to eat today because there was no food for them. It's a woman who watches her dying husband fade away because she can't afford medicine. Poverty is real. And they can't do anything about it. I had the incredible opportunity to go to Peru on the Famine Study Tour. I met poor children, and I saw poverty. But I also saw how the 30 Hour Famine was changing the lives of people who have nothing. The money we raise is bringing them hope and it really is saving lives! I saw, in person, that you and I can make a BIG difference through the Famine. That's why it's so great that you're doing the Famine! It's fun and you'll have an awesome time with your friends. But you might be surprised...the Famine might actually change YOU more than anyone else. You'll never look at poverty the same way again. Changing lives is something that you'll remember forever. So go for it! Do something to help poor children have a future. You'll be helping in more ways than you can imagine...and that's something to get excited about!
